Ebbe and an AI assistant

Connect an AI assistant with clear permissions while keeping permanent deletion under your control.

On this page

MCP lets you work with your budget in plain language. An assistant such as Claude can answer questions like “What does March look like?” and, with your permission, add the insurance that costs €148 each year on 1 April.

The connection is available only when the operator enables MCP. If the feature is off, the MCP tab and endpoint are unavailable.

Connecting

Under Account → MCP, you will find the connection details and a ready-made command for Claude’s CLI. The tab appears only when MCP is enabled.

Choose one of two connection methods:

  • OAuth, if a public address is configured. Your assistant sends you to Ebbe’s consent screen. You approve the requested access, and the assistant never receives your password.
  • A personal access token, which also works without a public address. See tokens.

If no public address is configured, Ebbe marks the connection addresses as unavailable instead of guessing. The tool list still appears because MCP also works with a token.

The seven tools

Reads first, and they need only budget:read:

Tool What it does
Describe the budget Reads settings, categories, and tags
Forecast the balance month by month Calculates the projection and compares it with the buffer
List recurring and one-off items Reads the items you have entered

Writes, which need budget:write:

Tool What it does
Create or update a recurring item Adds a new rhythm or changes an existing one
Create or update a one-off item Adds or changes a dated payment
Record the real account balance Adds a balance reading
Create or update a category Adds or changes a category

There is no delete tool

An assistant can pause an item or archive a category, and you can undo either change. Permanent deletion stays in the interface, where you can review what will be lost and confirm it yourself.

If an assistant misunderstands “cancel the gym”, pausing lets you correct the mistake. Deleting would remove the amount, rhythm, category, and tags for good.

Importing, emptying the budget, and pruning are also available only in the interface. Tokens likewise cannot change identity details or administration settings; see tokens.

What to expect

Assistants are particularly useful for reading the forecast and entering well-defined data. Asking when the balance falls below your buffer or dictating several recurring items can save a good deal of clicking.

Judgement still needs your context. An assistant only knows that the electricity amount is uncertain if you marked it as an estimate, and the buffer remains your measure of whether a holiday fits the plan.

Check what it entered. Once written, an item becomes part of your forecast. Use the item lists to confirm that amounts, dates, and rhythms match what you meant.

Safety notes

Connect only with the permissions you need. A read-only connection is enough for questions and cannot change your budget.

Everything an assistant does happens as you, and is subject to the same limits and rate limits as anything else.

Revoke from Account → API access → Connected applications, or by revoking the token. Either takes effect at once.
