The demo household

Explore a complete invented household in a temporary demo or load it into your own budget.

Ebbe includes an invented household with about sixty entries. It gives you a safe place to explore realistic examples of the main features and see what a complete forecast looks like before entering your own figures.

Two ways to see it

A demo session. Open /demo, or press Try the demo on the sign-in screen. You get an anonymous account with the household already in it, and it deletes itself after 60 minutes. Nothing is kept, there is no address to give, and signing out deletes it immediately.

In your own account. Settings → Budget → Load demo data, in the red-bordered block. This clears your budget first and replaces it with the household. There is a confirmation, and if you have anything of your own, export it first.

What is in it

The household contains the nine standard categories, five tags, roughly twenty recurring items, twenty one-offs, and four balance readings. It includes examples of the less obvious features:

• A rent that rises 4% every July, started years ago, so what the forecast bills is not the amount written on the item. That is a raise you can watch work.
• A pay rise ten months out, the one item that makes a later month better than an earlier one.
• Estimates: electricity, fuel, groceries — so some months carry the ≈ and some do not.
• A paused subscription and a paused savings transfer, so the pause switch has something to show.
• A phone instalment ending in nine months and a bike lease ending in fourteen, so changing the forecast horizon reveals different commitments.
• A gearbox repair of €4,200 two months out, large enough to push the household below its buffer.
• A holiday flat entered as a hand-written schedule: a deposit at four months and the balance at six, which an even split cannot express.
• A laptop in twelve instalments.
• A finished tag, winter-trip, every payment behind us, so you can see what a completed project looks like.
• Four balance readings of a household that runs slightly short of its own estimates, month after month — which is what makes the drift figure say something.

The buffer is set to €2,000 and the horizon to 24 months.

Every date is stored as an offset from today, so the demo never ages out: the gearbox always breaks two months from whenever you look.

Getting rid of it

In a demo session, do nothing — it expires, or press End demo.

In your own account, Settings → Budget → Empty budget clears everything and leaves you with the nine starter categories. Then either start entering your own household, or import a file you exported earlier.

The words in it

The item names use the language selected when the account is created. They are stored as ordinary budget text, so changing the interface language later does not translate them. See settings.
